Playing trumpet during the silence: Gijs honors deported composer on May 4

On May 4, trumpeter Gijs Levelt will perform music by Jewish composer Martin Friedmann during a silent march in Amsterdam to honor the late musician. Friedmann, who fled Germany to settle in Amsterdam in 1935, was later deported and killed in the Sobibor concentration camp in 1943. The performance will take place in front of Friedmann’s former residence on the Vijzelstraat.
