Who we are, where our news comes from, and how we handle it.
What we do
LocalHeadlines is a news aggregator that makes Dutch local and national journalism readable in English. We monitor the public RSS feeds of Dutch publishers, group the stories they file, translate headlines into English, write a short English summary of each story, and publish the result as a continuously updated feed for Amsterdam, Haarlem and the Netherlands as a whole.
Where our stories come from
Every item on this site originates with another publisher. We currently follow feeds from Het Parool, AT5, NH Nieuws, Algemeen Dagblad, NU.nl and other Dutch outlets. We do not employ reporters and we do not carry out original reporting: we are a translation and aggregation layer on top of the Dutch press.
Every article page names its source publisher and links to the original article. The original is always the record, our page is a summary that points you to it. If you want the full story, follow the “Read original” link and read it at the publisher, who deserves the visit.
How translation and summaries are produced
Headline translation and article summaries are produced automatically with a large language model, working from the publisher's own headline and article text. No human editor reviews each item before it appears.
Corrections and takedowns
If a translation is wrong, a summary misrepresents a story, or you are a publisher who would rather not appear here, email support@localheadlines.net. We correct or remove items on request. Publishers can also have their feed dropped entirely.
