During commemorations held at the Javakade and other city sites, she emphasized that the state still owes a debt of recognition to the first generation of Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families. Various locations in Amsterdam were also lit in the colors of the Moluccan flag to mark the anniversary.

Verweyhal gets a new future
The Haarlem city council has approved the sale of its share of the Verweyhal national monument to the Raiola heirs to facilitate a full restoration of the historic building.
