Mayor Halsema calls on government to apologize to Moluccans

Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema has called on the Dutch government to formally apologize to the Moluccan community for their treatment following their arrival in the Netherlands 75 years ago. During commemorations held at the Javakade and other city sites, she emphasized that the state still owes a debt of recognition to the first generation of Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families. Various locations in Amsterdam were also lit in the colors of the Moluccan flag to mark the anniversary.
