Exhibition A Good Hard Look: encounter between a dismantled scooter and a note from K. Schippers on a sidewalk tile

The exhibition A Good Hard Look at Gallery Working Title explores the intersection of everyday objects and surrealist conceptualism through the works of Jade van Doesburg and Baroeg Mulder. Van Doesburg presents pieces inspired by her late grandfather, the writer K. Schippers, incorporating personal artifacts like a German hyperinflation banknote and his cryptic handwritten memos into her collages and paintings. In the center of the gallery, Baroeg Mulder creates a stark urban landscape using concrete sidewalk tiles and the remains of a dismantled scooter, which is filmed by webcams to create a dramatic, archaeological effect. By mounting magnifying glasses on the walls to highlight small, overlooked items like candy wrappers, Mulder bridges the gap between the chaotic installation and Van Doesburg’s delicate compositions. Together, the artists demonstrate how mundane details can trigger profound imagination, paying subtle homage to the conceptualist influence of Marcel Duchamp.
