Fierce kitchen fire in Haarlem home

A kitchen fire broke out in a home on Jan Palachstraat in Haarlem this afternoon around 3:00 PM. Local residents initially feared for the safety of the elderly resident, but she was able to escape the building on her own. She was discovered waiting safely in her backyard by emergency responders when they arrived on the scene.

Medical personnel from an ambulance evaluated the woman on-site, and she did not require any hospital treatment. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control quickly. As a safety precaution, authorities closed the street to traffic for a period of time while crews worked. At this stage, officials have not determined the cause of the fire or the full extent of the damage sustained by the property.
