TV puppet Karbonkel on public display for first time since restoration

The television puppet Karbonkel, famous for appearing in the Dutch educational show Ik Mik Loreland, is currently on display for the public following a major restoration project. Visitors can view the character until November 8 at the Beeld en Geluid museum, though the puppet will return to storage afterward.
The iconic puppet Karbonkel, known for appearing in the educational television show Ik Mik Loreland from 1994 to 1996, is being displayed to the public for the first time. The character famously instilled fear in many children during the nineties, and visitors can now visit the Karbonkel Experience to see the creature in person. Due to high interest, the museum recommends booking tickets in advance for the limited exhibition, which runs until November 8.
Earlier this year, the puppet required extensive restoration after larvae were discovered in its padding within the museum depot. Restorer Carien van Aubel cleaned the puppet, repaired damaged sections, and replaced its nails after the creature spent time in a vacuum-sealed bag to eliminate the pests. Following the temporary exhibition, the puppet will be returned to storage, as museum officials confirmed it will not become a permanent part of the public display collection.
