Provincial councillor leaves party and remains absent for months

North Holland provincial representative Maik de Weerdt has been absent from legislative meetings for months since leaving the Volt party to form his own faction in December 2025. Despite missing approximately 15 meetings at the Provincial House in Haarlem, he has continued to receive his monthly allowance of roughly 2,250 euros. De Weerdt recently responded to the controversy by stating he intends to return to his duties next month.

Dutch cabinet seeks solution for Palestinian asylum seekers with asylum in Greece

Due to an emergency ordinance and a designated safety risk zone, demonstrators were required to maintain a greater distance from the building than in previous protests.

LAKS: Many exam noise complaints concern fatbikes

The Dutch National Action Committee for Students (LAKS) reports that nearly a third of the 430 noise complaints received during exams are related to fatbikes. Many of these complaints specifically involve loud fatbike alarms sounding on school grounds, disrupting students during their tests.
